Stainless steel is made from iron and other metals, which is strong and resists against wear and tear. It is inexpensive, long lasting and is most popular in North America. The metals used in stainless steel or iron, may produce health effects such as iron, nickel and chromium.

Ceramic pottery, enamel or glass cookware is easily cleaned and can be heated to fairly high temperatures. Ceramic is glazed; similar glazes are applied to metals to make enamelware. These glazes, a form of glass, resist wear and corrosion. For cooking and storing food, plastic is lightweight and nearly unbreakable. Many containers have been made for use in microwave ovens, where metal cookware is not suitable.

Stainless steel cookware should be washed in hot, soapy water or a warm ammonia and water solution, thoroughly rinsed and immediately dried to avoid water spots. Use mild, stainless steel cleaners or light scouring with a plastic or stainless steel scouring pad to remove most stains; don’t use steel wool, chlorine bleach or alcohol

Cast iron cookware is usually pre-seasoned coated with unsalted fat and heated to prevent rusting, unless porcelain coated. It should be washed in warm, sudsy water and frequently treated by coating the cast iron interior surface with unsalted shortening, left until its next use, and then wiped out. To re-season, scour the pan completely, rinse and dry; then coat the inside with unsalted fat and leave in moderate oven for two hours. Remove and wipe off excess grease

To remove copper cookware discoloration, use commercial cleaner or a mixture of flour, salt, lemon juice and ammonia applied before regular washing. Wash chrome cookware with warm water and soap or detergent. Do not use abrasive cleaners.

Have you ever considered using Glass block draw light into your home? Many years ago, glass block was used in factory buildings and basements to allow light flowing into the area but still provided some security and privacy.

Glass block has been used in showers and windows for bathrooms in higher priced housing. Home owners are only limited by their imagination when considering this durable material.I’ve seen glass block used to create furniture such as desks and tables. Other suggestions for its use are for kitchen counters and divider walls. Since the blocks are not opaque, they blur and dim images while still allowing the flow of light.

Glass has many additional benefits – durability and resistance to weather.

Glass block is sealed with mortar on the exterior of your home. Since it is sealed this way, you eliminate leaks that allow outside air to enter your home. This in itself will help reduce your utilities. Glass block reflects light by refracting rays around the room. Glass alone allows light to pour into a room and perhaps fade carpets and furniture.

If you are interested in using this material, check out the material with a professional. Installing this product requires knowledge and experience. I’m planning to use glass block to enhance my home design and interior lighting.

There are many ways that a child could be at risk in any home, especially with window coverings. Take a moment to look around your house to see if there are any areas that could be improved. You might even want to get on your hands and knees so you can be at a child’s eye level and see what they see.When it comes to window coverings, there are precautions you can and should take. Here are a few;

1. On Vertical Blinds, use the wand control option so you don’t have a dangling cord that a child could easily get wrapped up in.

2. For existing blinds with long cords, consider cutting the cords short so you have enough cord to operate them but eliminating the puddle of cords on the ground.

3. Some companies offer a break through tassel with blinds that need to have longer cords. Check to see if your manufacture offers something similar.

4. Consider using a motorized blind or shade.

5. Look into cordless blind and shade. These are becoming more popular and are very easy to operate. All you have to do is lift them up.

All of these options are here to make it safer for children, but nothing will ever be more important than adult supervision.

Are you looking for new ideas to decorate your kid’s room? Give the room some longevity by choosing background elements that are long lasting. Then use accessories, bedding, and inexpensive area rugs to create easily changeable themes. Unlike the other rooms in your home, which mostly reflect your personality, decorating kids rooms requires a slightly different approach.

Whether you’re a first-time parent or a veteran, decorating kid’s rooms is not child’s play. It’s a quite complex process where an adult has to incorporate all the safety features and blend them with childlike fantasy. The room should be an expression of the child’s identity, not yours. But children change, so you need to think ahead: will the design be easy to modify in five years, or even two? Is there room for storage, study, animal or doll collections, or a wrestling match?

First, consult with the child. Be certain to consider the child’s likes and dislikes when decorating their space. Decorating kid’s rooms is a work in progress – the planning begins before they are even born and goes on throughout their childhood.

You can be as creative and over the top as your child lets you; Vibrant and playful colors work well in any child’s room. Always paint children’s bedrooms with a semi-gloss, so the walls are easy to wipe without being too shiny. As for storage, check out your local do-it-your-self center for a host of affordable solutions.

As children grow, learn, play, and explore, their environment should respond. Kids will enjoy the exciting makeovers because they highlight their favorite interests at every age. As your child gets older, ask for their input.

In the current era, electricity is crucial, running the majority of our commercial sectors, making domestic chores easier, and providing many more options for our leisure time. Without electricity, society would revert, in some respects, back to a period when work was more labour intensive, and the types of entertainment which rule the post-modern age would be unattainable. For this reason, when electricity prices spike, it’s no wonder that the public begin to panic.

Luckily, following encouragement from energy watchdog OFGEM, gas and electricity suppliers are taking extra measures to make sure that domestic and commercial electricity consumers are in control of their energy usage and subsequent bill. As well as smart meters which track a client’s energy usage, customers now have the option to access their consumption figures online, where their gas and electricity usage is tracked in real time, so they will never be out of the loop. Cuts to electricity bills can be made by limiting the use of appliances, and turning off lighting when it is not in use, and with equipment fitted compus mentus by leading gas and electricity companies, it has never been easier to pinpoint which appliances consume the most energy.

In addition, tariffs are simpler, and electricity bills are now easier to understand, meaning that customers can make a more informed decision about whether their tariff and their supplier are offering the most suitable and cost-effective energy plan for their individual needs, and switch to another company if they deem it necessary.
